12June

Another lovely day at sea. It's sunny and warm with the big swells still coming from the port side. Last night was formal and most people dress up. It's nice to see all the guys in their dinner suits and bow ties, or at least suits and ties and the ladies in their bling. There was lobster with prawns on the menu and they kindly did me one without the prawns – was delicious. We went to the crew talent show. Most of the acts there were better than some of the professional entertainment we've seen on the ship. All I can say for next years cruisers, don't miss it. Some of those waiters etc have extraordinary voices. The Art Sales lady used to be a professional singer – she's tall, blond, wore a slinky black dress and sang Fever. Left our last professional singer for dead. I'd forgotten that, as a finale, the cruise staff do "If I were not upon the sea" which many people no doubt, have seen. Even if the whole show was lousy, it would be worth sitting through for the finale. It's hilarious. I hadn't seen the "Lorena Bobbit" bit before but it's a nice touch. We're just back from breakfast and the deck walk. It usually takes us an hour for each meal (more at dinner), what with the chatting and all. I was collecting my usual McDonalds style bacon and egg muffin when, Jeff, of Steph and Jeff, came up behind me and said, "Sorry madam, there is a limit of three per person on those". Now I ask you, is that very nice? We've got a busy day today. Trivia (ever hopeful) at 10.15, Cousin Gail is in the choir which is doing a recital at 12.15. Have to fit in a swim today because the weather is so beautiful, then more trivia this afternoon. John is going to a navigation lecture. I took two books out of the library the second day at sea and have only read one – Toni Morrison's , A Mercy. Considering I read five or so books a week at home, you'd think I'd do better here. John and Cousin Baz carried on to karaoke last night but we ladies retired. For those who've read the criticisms about the Dawn Princess – lousy beds, bed bugs, torn sheets, awful pillows – I can say we have had no such problems and I haven't heard any complaints from anyone else.....Have just been to the choir recital and it was excellent. The title was "From Musicals" and it was certainly good entertainment. Their finale was songs from Les Miz. It was held in the Atrium which made it difficult for people to actually see the choir. I arrived 30 minutes early and only got a spot at the side, upstairs and had to stand all the time. Next time, they will try for the Vista Lounge.
