There is a big swell running today and we're heading straight into it so we have rock and roll in the ship. It's really quite rough and it's an adventure walking up and down the stairs at times. The bow hits a wave at an odd angle and the bow wave is spectacular – splashes right up on to the Promenade Deck and the whole ship shudders. At the stern of the ship where we are, it's kind of like being in a rodeo. My kind of weather at sea. Pools are closed and are sloshing from one end to the other and splashing up. The production show for today has been cancelled; imagine trying to dance on stage in these seas. Yesterday, at 5.00pm we broke down for a couple of hours. The term used was 'technical fault' – something to do with the electrics, but fortunately the sea was calm. Don't quite know what happens if you break down in a big sea. We were hoping it would be a 24 hour thing then we might get a refund of another cruise for free. Everyone is worried that we will be late in to Safaga where most people are going on tours to the Valley of the Kings – I am going to the laundry and then looking at what's to see in Safaga. We are now heading into 'pirate alley'. There were markedly fewer walkers on the Promenade Deck this morning as well as fewer people at trivia (could be from seasickness). There are security personnel deployed on the deck 24 hours a day. Last night was 50s Rock and Roll night and we did lots of dancing and making spectacles of ourselves. Certainly was a lot of fun. Our group won three caps for various activities. Sheila, from Chicago won the hula-hoop competition, Baz won his for being one of the Supremes and Gail (other Gail) for excellence in air piano playing/dancing. See photos. I left when the band stopped at 11.00 but John, Allan and Barry continued on at Jammers until after 1.00am. Fortunately, the clocks were put back one hour last night so got extra sleep. We are now only two or three hours off London time and cruise is half over. State of Origin is being broadcast on the big screen on deck at the moment...there are some very sorry looking NSW supporters when I just walked past and checked the score 28-Nil. I suppose there could be a turnaround yet!!!! It's formal tonight. I've spent a lot of time on deck today and my hair has that 'straw broom' look from the 40 knot winds. I'm fast losing my enthusiasm for formal nights but, once we're dressed up, we have a lot of fun. Seas are picking up, just hit a wave and I nearly fell out of the chair. We're dancing in the Wheelhouse Bar tonight – should be a lot of lurching from side to side. Better wear flat shoes.
