Photo - Allan and Sally on train in to KL

Port Klang-KL
We docked at 7.00am today. Money change people came on board so we were able to get some Ringit. Unlike other cruises I have been on, the purser's desk doesn't seem to be able to provide foreign currency apart from US$. QE2, in each port, had a money change machine – put in one currency and get whatever currency you needed for the next port. Similarly, I've been able to obtain foreign currency with my cruise card. Someone asked what I would bring more of and I would say Australian currency or US currency. I only brought about $200 Australian but would at least double that – in $20 notes or so. Once we are in town it is no problem because there are ATMs everywhere. Only a problem where we dock a little way out. We (John and I, Allan and Sally and Rick) went into KL by train today which was fun. The railway men enjoyed it and took photos of engines etc that only other railway men will appreciate. Usually we dock near Port Klang station but the Superstar Virgo was docked there so we are further down in the container port. Altogether, it cost $16 each return to go into KL. The train fare is only AUD3 return per person and had we docked closer to the train station would have been cheap as. I think Princess charges at least $65 for "KL on your own tour". Drop you off in town and bring you back later. Ii also think it's a bit steep to dock us in a container port then charge $7 each way in a shuttle bus. The shuttle bus went to the Klang shopping centre, not to anywhere we could get public transport. We saw the Pretonas Towers and the sky needle (whatever it is called). Had a walk around and caught the monorail to a charming place called Tittiwanka (or similar). We got off the monorail half way back at a large (12 storey) shopping centre. I only got to the second floor. Ate in a Malaysian restaurant and the food was delicious. I like to look at supermarkets in other countries – interesting stuff. Bought a bottle of wine for the equivalent of AUD13 – not cheap but will see what it costs in Lankawi tomorrow. Three ports in three days, getting a bit much. Am looking forward to some sea time. Am going to have my first foray into the laundry tomorrow...will need some dutch courage. Hopefully most people will be off looking at Lankawi. We'll go ashore later.
